Time to move on...

It's been a long year and I'm glad that it's finally coming to an end. I'll be saying goodbye to Findlay for good in February. Florida will be my new home. It will be nice to be able to see my family more often. Dad passed away from a stroke back in April after spending 6 months in a nursing home with cancer. I'm ready for a change of pace and scenery. It feels kind of stagnant here anymore. Everyone have a great Christmas and a safe and happy New Year! :)

A new year

Well, a new year has come and gone and a few things have changed this year. The week before Thanksgiving I got back in touch with my brothers and sisters from my Dad's first marriage. Turns out that Dad has terminal cancer and doesn't have a lot of time left. I haven't been in contact with my Dad for over 6 years. I'm glad I am able to be back in his life for whatever time is left. I'm still working in a factory on 3rd shift. I've been at my current job since July of 2008. I have been at my apartment now for almost a year this month. Yes, I moved in very, very cold temperatures last year. I think it was only 5 degrees the day I moved. It had been -15 the day before. The wind was blowing hard and it was snowing. That was a crappy day. Fortunately I have awesome friends and family that were willing to drive all the way from Kentucky to help me move that day.
I've been slack when it comes to writing. I have started a new idea for a novel but have only gotten maybe a chapter in so far. I'm working more on character development before going any further. I can't write about characters I know nothing about. They have to be fleshed out quite a bit to be able to see into their minds and be able to predict what choices they make. I do know that the characters so far are interesting enough to make me want to tell their story. I want to dive in and get 'er going, I really do. Still have to work on plot and antagonist of the story.
I've started working on different art projects, more for fun than anything. I invested in a Wacom Bamboo tablet to do digital art with. Much easier than using a mouse and nicer than using a pencil and paper. It's much easier to fix mistakes. I wish I would have gone into college for graphic design after high school. I went the quicker and cheaper route by going to Cosmetology school instead. Don't get me wrong, I liked doing hair. Unfortunately it's a hard business to break into.
This past year hasn't been the best, and by far is one of the worse years I've had. I hope, with a little luck and some determination, this year will be better.

I don't agree...

Soooooo.... this is what the world is coming to, eh? I saw this in todays Courier.

Don't go to prom, school tells teen

MARY KATE MALONE, Staff Writer~
A senior at Heritage Christian School will be suspended Monday for attending Findlay High School's prom because the event involves dancing and rock music. A Heritage School committee decided Wednesday that Tyler Frost, 17, will be suspended if he attends Saturday's dance because the school's policy forbids dancing, rock music, hand holding and kissing.Frost plans to attend prom anyway with his girlfriend, a senior at Findlay High.He would have received his diploma May 24 from the 84-student fundamentalist Baptist school at 2000 Broad Ave. in Findlay. But Frost will now be suspended from classes and receive an “incomplete” on remaining assignments, according to Principal Tim England. He will not be permitted to attend any graduation ceremonies with his class of four students, but will receive his diploma once he completes his final exams. If Frost “is involved with alcohol or sex” at the prom, he will be expelled from Heritage, England said.Frost's stepfather, Stephan Johnson, said he plans to file a lawsuit against the school. Frost has attended Heritage Christian, a ministry of Calvary Baptist Church, since kindergarten. Other than a detention in seventh grade, Frost has never had disciplinary problems, he said.“He deserves to wear that cap and gown,” Johnson said.According to the school handbook, rock music “is part of the counterculture which seeks to implant seeds of rebellion in young people's hearts and minds.”The school also forbids physical contact between girls and boys in grades 7-12.Johnson believes those rules should not, and do not, apply outside the classroom. He said many students and their parents do not know the scope of the handbook's rules.“How many people at that school know that when country music comes on, their kid could be expelled? Ninety percent of the school could be expelled,” Johnson said. England said Frost agreed to the school's rules when he signed a statement of cooperation at the beginning of the school year. “Our stand on this issue should be of no surprise to the student or his parents,” England said in a statement. “For the parents to claim any injustice regarding this issue is at best forgetful and at worst disingenuous. It is our hope that the student and his parents will abide by the policies they have already agreed to.” England said he has never known a Heritage Christian student to attend Findlay's prom. He has been principal for 13 years. Findlay High School requires students attending prom from other schools to get a signature from their principal.England signed the form for Frost, but told him there would be “consequences” if he attended the dance, Frost said. “I expected a short lecture about making the right decisions and not doing something stupid,” Frost said. “I thought I would get his signature and that would be the end.”Instead, England took the issue to the School Committee, made up of church members, where they decided to suspend Frost.“In life, we constantly make decisions whether we are going to please self or please God. (Frost) chose one path, and the School Committee chose the other,” England said.Frost said he has never been to a dance before.Craig Kupferberg, principal of Findlay High School, said he respects, but does not agree with, Heritage Christian School's view of prom activities.“I don't see (dancing and rock music) as immoral acts,” Kupferberg said.

Update on life...

Things have changed a bit since my last blog. I am working and moved into an apartment a couple months ago. Things are better for now I guess. At least I still have a job. Nothing much going on besides that right now. My brain's too tired to think of anything of interest. I shouldn't be tired. I slept yesterday during the day for about 7 hours and again last night for about 6 hours. I can't believe I've slacked off for so long on my blog....

Must....have.....caffeine...
Here's my daughter's Lovebird, Chardonnay. We call her Birdie for short.
